Reworking a Portrait from 2015

Updated: Dec 30, 2017

I love to rework old drawings and see my growth as an artist over the years. I recently reworked an old portrait of my own cat that I drew in 2015 that at the time I thought was very good, so I was quite surprised when I took another look at it and realised how much extra detail I could add to make it that little bit more realistic.

Back in 2015, I used just Faber Castell Polychromos coloured pencils on Daler Rowney Bristol Board, this time I used exactly the same but with the introduction of a Micron Fineliner in 005 and a Uniball signo white gel pen right at the end to really strengthen the shadows and highlights.

Looking at them both side to side I think the newest version is much more true to life in terms of the colours, I have toned down lots of the orange and yellow and really defined a lot of the details.

I'm looking forward to seeing my progress in the future, maybe I'll something similar to this next year.

Thank you so much for reading this, I hope you found it encouraging :)
